Chipped, Broken or Fractured Tooth

Depending on the severity of your pain after chipping or breaking a tooth, you may be able to wait a few days to see a dentist provided you take extreme caution not to damage the tooth further.

Where a small chip can wait, a cracked or fractured tooth likely requires emergency dental treatment. Where a chipped tooth is more cosmetic when you fracture a tooth there may also be damage on the inside of the tooth that, if left untreated, can require the tooth to be removed. An emergency dental appointment can relieve the pain and, potentially, save your tooth.

Before your emergency appointment, there are some steps and precautions you can take to help reduce the severity of your emergency service.

First, you should clean the damaged tooth with a warm water rinse. If you still have the chipped pieces, clean them with warm water and bring them to us so we can try to repair your chipped tooth with the natural pieces.

However, it is important you try to schedule an appointment with Carolina Dental Care within 72 hours so the crown can properly put back in place and re-cemented.
